How does Monitoring Work?

5 Interlinked Virtual Monitoring Centres

What Happens When My Alarm Goes Off?

Why ADT?

How does Monitoring Work?

All of the components of your security system are connected to your central control panel – the brains of the system. The control panel communicates with ADT’s Monitoring Centre via a communication line like your phone line or a digital wireless network.

When your system is ARMED, ADT monitors the various sensors in your home or business for activity. If a sensor is tripped and no valid user code is entered into the keypad within a specified time, an alarm signal is sent to the Monitoring Centre.

This is when ADT operators jump into action.

If you have the proper devices to monitor for smoke & fire, CO poison, flood and extreme temperature changes, ADT is always monitoring your home for these potential threats. If one is detected, a signal will be sent to the Monitoring Centre to be acted on. Arming and disarming of your system has no impact on this.

5 Interlinked Virtual Monitoring Centres

ADT began protecting homes and business in 1874 via telegraph. Over the years, technology has advanced, and the company has developed and grown its monitoring centres into the most technologically advanced networked monitoring stations in the world, protecting over 6.5 million homes and businesses.

ADT’s Canadian monitoring centres combine the very latest in technology with a best-in-class training program for their Emergency Response Operators. With 12 weeks of in-house training and practicum learning, their ERC Operators learn to respond to emergency alarm situations and medical emergencies with precision and professionalism. In addition to this training, all of their operators become certified with the Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA) and the Security Industry Association (SIA).

Multiple-monitor operator stations, integrated with leading edge response platforms, two-way voice technology and complete customer management systems, ensure that all of the information to handle the situation quickly and correctly is obtained for the operator. This high-end technology ensures a rapid response to any emergency.

Through their commitment to excellence, ADT has built and operated their Monitoring Centres to meet the requirements of the Underwriters’ Laboratories of Canada (ULC) and has one of only two Canadian monitoring stations that has earned the prestigious Five-Diamond Certification from the CSAA. To earn this designation ADT displayed proficiency in alarm verification, communication with emergency services and emergency preparedness for a wide variety of scenarios. The CSAA Five-Diamond Certification is seen as the benchmark of excellence for a central station.

Over the past few years, ADT has invested millions of dollars developing and enhancing their monitoring centres.  Their national network of ULC-listed centres share the same operating software and are connected by a secure and dedicated communication line.  This allows each centre to act as a back up in the event of a disaster or outage.

ADT’s credentials, technology and experienced personnel set them apart from others.

What Happens When My Alarm Goes Off?

Within seconds of receiving an alarm signal from a home or business the monitoring centre’s cutting-edge technology gives ADT operators the relevant information they need. In seconds they can determine:

  • What type of emergency it is.
  • Which local authorities to dispatch, if required.
  • Who to contact.
  • What to do if you’re on holidays.
  • Whether there is a pet in the house.

Operators will have everything they need to know in order to deal with your situation quickly and effectively. Click here to visit ADT’s website and learn more about monitoring.
